Samsung Washer Error Code nD — Not Draining
What this means
The nD error code specifically means 'not draining' — the washer attempted to drain but could not complete within the allotted time. While similar to the 5E code, nD is more commonly associated with partial blockages or slow drains rather than complete blockages.
Alternate codes: nd
Step-by-step fix
3 stepsClean the debris filter
Open the filter access panel at the lower front of the washer. Place towels and a pan below. Slowly unscrew the filter cap and drain the water. Remove and clean the filter of any debris, lint, coins, or small objects.
A partially clogged filter is the #1 cause of nD — it allows some water through but not fast enough.
Check the drain hose height
The drain hose should be elevated between 24–36 inches from the floor where it connects to the standpipe or drain. If it's too high, the pump can't push water up effectively. If too low, water may flow back in.
Use the U-shaped hose guide that came with your washer to maintain proper height.
Clear the standpipe
If the drain hose connects to a standpipe, the pipe itself may be partially clogged. Remove the drain hose and pour hot water down the standpipe to flush it. If water backs up, the standpipe needs snaking.
The standpipe should be at least 1.5 inches in diameter per Samsung specifications.
When to call a professional
If the filter is clean and the drain path is clear but the washer still can't drain, the drain pump motor may be weakening and need replacement.
