E-OA

Samsung Oven/Range Error Code E-OA — Oven Overheated Beyond Safe Temperature

Advanced Fix 30–60 minutes Tools: Multimeter, Phillips screwdriver, 1/4-inch nut driver, Infrared thermometer (optional)

What this means

The E-OA error code indicates the Samsung oven's internal temperature has climbed above the manufacturer's safety threshold (typically around 650 °F in bake mode or well above the set self-clean temperature). The control board shuts off the heating elements to prevent damage or fire. This can be caused by a faulty temperature sensor giving false low readings, a stuck relay on the control board that won't turn off the element, or a defective cooling fan.

Alternate codes: EOA

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Let the oven cool and reset

Turn off the oven and open the door carefully. Allow it to cool completely — this can take 30–60 minutes. Once cool, turn off the breaker for two minutes, then restore power and try a short bake cycle at 350 °F.

Use an oven-safe thermometer or infrared thermometer to independently verify the actual cavity temperature against the display reading.

2

Test the temperature sensor

If the oven overheats again, turn off the breaker and test the temperature sensor at the rear of the oven cavity. Disconnect its harness and measure resistance — it should read about 1,080–1,100 ohms at room temperature. A sensor reading too low tricks the board into over-firing the elements.

If the resistance is even 15–20 % below normal, replace the sensor — a slightly off sensor causes gradual overheating.

3

Inspect the cooling fan

The oven has an internal cooling fan (separate from the convection fan) that prevents electronics from overheating. With the breaker off, access the fan from the rear panel. Spin the blade by hand — it should rotate freely. Check for continuity through the fan motor leads.

Dust and grease can seize the fan motor over time. Even if it spins freely cold, it may stall under heat — listen for the fan during the next bake cycle.

4

Check for a stuck relay on the control board

If the sensor and fan are good but the oven keeps climbing past the set temperature, a relay on the control board may be stuck closed, sending continuous power to the bake or broil element. This requires professional diagnosis and board replacement.

Do not continue to use the oven if it repeatedly overheats — the risk of fire is real.

When to call a professional

An oven that repeatedly overheats is a safety hazard. If replacing the temperature sensor and verifying the cooling fan don't fix the issue, have a technician inspect the control board relays immediately.
