E-08

Samsung Oven/Range Error Code E-08 — Temperature Sensor Open or Shorted

Moderate Fix 30–60 minutes Tools: Multimeter, Phillips screwdriver, 1/4-inch nut driver

What this means

The E-08 error code on Samsung ovens means the electronic control board is reading an abnormal resistance value from the oven cavity temperature sensor. The sensor wire may be broken (open circuit) or internally shorted. Without accurate temperature feedback the oven cannot regulate heat, so it shuts down for safety.

Alternate codes: E08

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Power cycle the oven

Turn off the breaker for two minutes and restore power. Start a bake cycle to see if the code returns. A one-time electrical glitch can occasionally trigger E-08.

If the oven heats normally after the reset, monitor it over the next few uses before considering the issue resolved.

2

Locate and access the temperature sensor

The temperature sensor is a thin metal probe that extends into the oven cavity, usually mounted at the top rear wall. Open the oven door and look for a small metal rod held by one or two screws. From the back of the range, remove the rear panel to access the sensor's wiring harness.

Do not confuse the temperature sensor with the broil igniter — the sensor is a thin probe, not a flat silicon carbide bar.

3

Test the sensor with a multimeter

Disconnect the sensor's two-wire connector at the back. Set your multimeter to ohms. At room temperature (~75 °F / 24 °C) a good Samsung oven sensor reads approximately 1,080–1,100 ohms. An OL (open line) reading or 0 ohms means the sensor is faulty.

Gently wiggle the wires while testing — an intermittent reading indicates a broken wire inside the insulation.

4

Replace the sensor if faulty

Remove the one or two mounting screws inside the oven cavity. Pull the old sensor out through the rear wall. Feed the new sensor in, secure with screws, reconnect the harness, and restore power. Run a bake cycle to verify the error clears.

Use the genuine Samsung sensor — aftermarket sensors sometimes have a slightly different resistance curve that can cause temperature inaccuracy.

When to call a professional

If the new sensor still produces E-08, the control board's sensor input circuit may be damaged. A technician can test the board and replace it if needed.
