Samsung Dryer Error Code tS — Temperature Sensor Error
What this means
The tS error code indicates the dryer's temperature sensor (thermistor) is sending abnormal readings to the control board. This could mean the sensor is open, shorted, or disconnected. Without accurate temperature readings, the dryer cannot safely regulate heat and will stop the cycle.
Alternate codes: t5, tC
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsPower cycle the dryer
Unplug the dryer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in and start a new cycle. A one-time glitch can sometimes trigger this code.
If the code returns immediately, the sensor likely needs testing or replacement.
Access the thermistor
Unplug the dryer. Remove the top panel by unscrewing the screws at the rear edge and sliding it back. On most Samsung models, the thermistor is located on the blower housing or inside the drum housing near the heating element.
Take a photo of the wire connections before disconnecting anything.
Test the thermistor with a multimeter
Disconnect the thermistor wires. Set your multimeter to resistance (ohms). At room temperature (~75°F), a working Samsung dryer thermistor should read approximately 10,000 ohms (10kΩ). If you get OL (open line) or 0 ohms, the sensor is faulty.
The resistance should decrease as temperature increases. You can warm it gently with your hand to see the reading change.
Replace the thermistor if faulty
If the reading is out of range, replace the thermistor. Disconnect the wires, remove the mounting screw, and install the new sensor. Reconnect the wires and reassemble the dryer. Run a test cycle to verify.
Also check the wiring harness for damage or loose connections before replacing the sensor itself.
When to call a professional
If the thermistor tests good but the error persists, the main control board may be faulty. Control board diagnosis and replacement should be handled by a qualified technician.
