Samsung Dryer Error Code tE — Temperature Sensor Error
What this means
The tE error means the dryer's thermistor (temperature sensor) is malfunctioning, disconnected, or shorted. The dryer cannot accurately monitor its internal temperature and stops as a safety measure.
Alternate codes: tS, tC
Step-by-step fix
3 stepsPower cycle the dryer
Unplug the dryer for 2 minutes and plug it back in. A temporary sensor glitch can sometimes be cleared with a reset.
If the error only appeared once, a power cycle often resolves it.
Check thermistor wiring
Access the thermistor (usually mounted on the blower housing or duct). Check that the wire harness connector is firmly seated. Vibration can loosen connections over time.
Always unplug the dryer before accessing any internal components.
Test the thermistor resistance
Disconnect the thermistor and measure its resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (~77°F), it should read approximately 10,000 ohms (10kΩ). A significantly different reading means it's faulty.
Thermistor resistance decreases as temperature increases — this is normal.
When to call a professional
If you don't own a multimeter or aren't comfortable accessing the dryer's internals, a technician can diagnose this quickly.
