LG Washer Error Code IE — Water Inlet Error

Easy Fix 15–30 minutes Tools: Pliers, Bucket, Towel

What this means

The IE error code means the LG washer is not receiving enough water or is not filling at all. This is typically caused by closed water supply valves, kinked inlet hoses, clogged inlet filters, low water pressure, or a faulty water inlet valve. It's one of the most straightforward errors to diagnose and fix.

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Check the water supply valves

Locate the hot and cold water valves behind the washer. Ensure both valves are fully open by turning them counterclockwise. A partially closed valve can restrict water flow enough to trigger the IE error.

After a plumbing repair or water shutoff, these valves sometimes don't get reopened all the way.

2

Inspect the inlet hoses

Pull the washer away from the wall and check both supply hoses for kinks, sharp bends, or visible damage. Straighten any kinks and ensure the hoses have a smooth path from the valve to the washer.

Replace old rubber inlet hoses with braided stainless steel hoses for added durability and burst protection.

3

Clean the inlet mesh filters

Turn off the water supply. Disconnect the hoses from the back of the washer. Use pliers to carefully pull out the small mesh screens inside the inlet valve ports. Rinse them under running water to remove sediment and mineral buildup.

Clean these screens every 6 months. Hard water areas may need more frequent cleaning.

4

Test the water inlet valve

If filters are clean and supply is strong, the water inlet valve itself may be faulty. Test with a multimeter — each solenoid coil should read between 500–1,500 ohms. No reading (open circuit) means the valve needs replacement.

When to call a professional

If the water supply is good and inlet filters are clean but the washer still shows IE, the water inlet valve is likely faulty. Replacing it requires disconnecting water and electrical connections inside the machine.
