LG Washer Error Code PE — Water Level Sensor Error

Moderate Fix 20–40 minutes Tools: Screwdriver, Multimeter

What this means

The PE error code indicates the LG washer's water level sensor (pressure switch) is not sending the correct signal to the control board. The machine cannot determine how much water is in the drum, so it halts operation as a safety precaution. This is usually caused by a faulty pressure switch, a disconnected or cracked air hose, or a control board issue.

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Reset the washer

Unplug the washer for 10 minutes, then plug it back in and try running a cycle. A PE error can sometimes be caused by a temporary control board glitch.

2

Inspect the pressure switch hose

Remove the top panel of the washer. Locate the pressure switch — a small round disc with a rubber hose connected to it. Check that the hose is firmly connected at both ends, is not kinked, and has no cracks or holes.

A disconnected or cracked pressure hose is the most common cause of PE errors and costs almost nothing to fix.

3

Test the pressure switch

Disconnect the hose from the pressure switch. Blow gently into the switch port — you should hear a distinct click as the switch activates. If there is no click, the switch is faulty.

Also check the electrical connector on the pressure switch for corrosion or loose pins.

4

Replace the pressure switch if faulty

If the switch does not click or the hose is intact and connected, remove the two screws holding the pressure switch, disconnect the wiring harness, and install the replacement. Reconnect the hose and wiring.

When to call a professional

If you've replaced the pressure switch and the PE error continues, the main control board may be at fault. Control board diagnosis and replacement should be handled by a technician.
