LG Washer Error Code OE — Drain Error
What this means
The OE error code on LG washers indicates the machine cannot drain water within the allotted time. This is one of the most common LG washer errors, typically caused by a clogged drain filter, kinked drain hose, or a faulty drain pump. In most cases, cleaning the pump filter resolves the problem.
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsClean the drain pump filter
Open the small access panel on the lower front of the washer. Place towels and a shallow pan underneath. Pull out the small drain hose and uncap it to let residual water drain out. Then slowly unscrew the pump filter counterclockwise and remove any debris such as coins, lint, or small items.
LG recommends cleaning this filter once a month to prevent drain errors.
Check the drain hose
Pull the washer away from the wall and inspect the drain hose for kinks, pinches, or clogs. The hose should not be inserted more than 8 inches into the standpipe. Disconnect the hose and run water through it to check for blockages.
If the drain hose forms a loop higher than 96 inches from the floor, it can impede drainage.
Test the drain pump
With the filter area accessible, run a Spin Only cycle and listen to the drain pump. A humming sound with no water movement may indicate a jammed impeller. No sound at all suggests a failed pump motor.
A small sock or garment can bypass the filter and jam the pump impeller.
Reset and test
Reinstall the filter, close the access panel, and run a Rinse & Spin cycle. If the washer drains successfully, the issue is resolved. If the OE code returns, the drain pump likely needs replacement.
When to call a professional
If the drain pump is not running or makes grinding noises after clearing the filter and hose, it likely needs replacement. Accessing and replacing the drain pump requires partial disassembly of the machine.
