LG Washer Error Code FE — Water Overflow Error
What this means
The FE error code means the LG washer has detected that the water level in the drum has exceeded the proper level. This can be caused by a faulty water inlet valve that won't shut off, a malfunctioning water level sensor (pressure switch), or even excessive suds causing false readings.
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsCancel the cycle and drain
Press the Power button to turn off the washer. If there is standing water, run a Spin Only or Drain Only cycle. If the machine won't respond, use the emergency drain hose behind the access panel to manually drain the water.
Place towels around the base in case of overflow when opening the access panel.
Check for excessive suds
Look inside the drum for excessive suds. If you used too much detergent or non-HE detergent, the suds can interfere with the water level sensor. Run a Rinse & Spin cycle without detergent to clear suds.
Always use HE (High Efficiency) detergent in LG washers. Use only 2 tablespoons per load.
Test the water inlet valve
Turn off the water supply and unplug the washer. If the tub continues to fill slowly even with the washer unplugged and off, the inlet valve is stuck open and must be replaced. This is a mechanical failure that cannot be reset.
A stuck-open inlet valve is a flood risk — turn off water supply valves immediately if this is the case.
Inspect the pressure switch and air hose
Remove the top panel. Locate the pressure switch (a small round component with a rubber hose attached). Check that the rubber hose is not cracked, kinked, or disconnected. Blow gently into the hose — you should hear a click from the switch.
A cracked or disconnected pressure hose is a common and inexpensive fix for the FE error.
When to call a professional
If the water inlet valve is stuck open (water fills with the machine unplugged), replace it immediately or call a technician. If the pressure switch or control board is faulty, professional diagnosis is recommended.
