GE Dishwasher Error Code C5 — Fill Error

Easy Fix 10–20 minutes Tools: Pliers

What this means

The C5 error means the dishwasher didn't fill to the required water level within the expected time. The water supply may be restricted or the inlet valve may be failing.

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Check the water supply valve

Open the cabinet under the sink and make sure the dishwasher supply valve is fully open.

The valve is sometimes accidentally bumped partially closed.

2

Inspect the supply line

Check the braided supply hose for kinks or damage. Make sure connections are tight.

If the hose is very old and corroded at the fittings, consider replacing it.

3

Clean the inlet screen

Where the supply line connects to the dishwasher's inlet valve, there's a small mesh filter. Turn off water, disconnect the hose, and clean the screen.

Mineral deposits from hard water clog this screen over time.

When to call a professional

If supply is adequate but the dishwasher won't fill, the inlet valve solenoid may need replacement.
