Samsung Washer Error Code 4E — Water Supply Issue
What this means
The 4E error code on Samsung washers indicates the machine is not receiving adequate water supply. This is one of the most common Samsung washer errors and is usually caused by kinked hoses, closed valves, or clogged inlet filters. In most cases, this is a simple DIY fix that doesn't require professional help.
Alternate codes: 4C, E1
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsCheck the water supply valves
Locate the hot and cold water valves behind the washer. Make sure both are fully open by turning them counterclockwise.
If the valves are corroded or stiff, don't force them — call a plumber to replace them.
Inspect the inlet hoses
Pull the washer out from the wall and check both inlet hoses for kinks, bends, or visible damage. Straighten any kinks you find.
Replace rubber hoses with braided stainless steel hoses to prevent future kinking and bursting.
Clean the inlet mesh filters
Turn off the water supply. Disconnect both hoses from the back of the washer. Use pliers to carefully pull out the small mesh filter screens inside the valve inlets. Rinse them under running water to clear sediment buildup.
Clean these filters every 6 months, especially if you have hard water.
Verify water pressure
Reconnect the hoses and turn the valves back on. Run a test cycle. If the water stream from your faucets is also weak, the issue may be low household water pressure — contact your water utility.
Samsung washers require a minimum of 0.5 bar (7.25 PSI) water pressure to fill properly.
When to call a professional
If the error persists after checking the supply valves, hoses, and filters, the water inlet valve inside the machine may be faulty and need replacement. This involves partial disassembly and is best handled by a technician.
