Samsung Washer Error Code 3E — Motor Error
What this means
The 3E error code indicates a problem with your Samsung washer's drive motor or the hall sensor that monitors motor rotation. The washer may stop mid-cycle because the motor can't spin the drum. Sub-codes (3E1–3E4) indicate different motor-related faults.
Alternate codes: 3E1, 3E2, 3E3, 3E4, 3C
Step-by-step fix
3 stepsCheck for an overloaded drum
An overloaded washer can stall the motor and trigger the 3E code. Remove some items to reduce the load and try again.
The drum should never be more than 3/4 full.
Power cycle the washer
Unplug for 2–3 minutes and plug back in. A temporary motor controller glitch can cause a false 3E error.
If the error only appeared once, a power cycle is often sufficient.
Check the motor hall sensor connector
If you're comfortable with disassembly, the hall sensor is located on the motor (typically at the back, behind the rear panel). Check that its wiring connector is fully seated and not corroded.
The hall sensor tells the control board how fast the motor is spinning — a loose connection mimics a motor failure.
When to call a professional
Motor diagnosis and replacement require significant disassembly, electrical testing, and potentially heavy lifting. This is strongly recommended as a professional repair.
