OC

Samsung Dishwasher Error Code OC — Overflow / Water Level Too High

Advanced Fix 30–60 minutes Tools: Multimeter, Phillips screwdriver, Towels

What this means

The OC error code indicates the water level inside the dishwasher tub has risen above the normal operating level. This overfill condition can be caused by a faulty water inlet valve that won't shut off, a malfunctioning water level sensor, or a drain issue that prevents proper water management during the cycle.

Alternate codes: oC, oE

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Turn off water and power

Immediately turn off the water supply valve under the sink and turn off the dishwasher circuit breaker. This stops any further filling.

2

Remove excess water

Open the dishwasher door carefully (water may be high). Use towels or a wet/dry vacuum to remove excess water from the tub.

Open the door slowly — if the water level is above the door seal, water can pour out.

3

Check the water inlet valve

A faulty inlet valve can remain open and continue filling even when the control board signals it to stop. Access the valve from under the dishwasher. If water continues to trickle in even with the power off, the valve is mechanically stuck open and must be replaced.

A valve that lets water through when de-energized is a mechanical failure and cannot be fixed — only replaced.

4

Check the drain system

Ensure the drain is not clogged. A blocked drain can cause water to accumulate faster than it drains, triggering an overfill condition. Clean the drain filter and check the drain hose.

This error can sometimes co-occur with a 5E drain error.

When to call a professional

If the inlet valve needs replacement or the water level sensor is faulty, a technician can handle the repair. Overfill conditions should be addressed promptly to prevent water damage.
