GE Washer Error Code E30 — Drum Overfilled With Water

Advanced 30–60 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Pliers, Multimeter, Towels

What this means

The E30 error code on GE washers indicates the drum has overfilled with water. The pressure switch or water level sensor has detected a water level higher than expected for the selected cycle. This can be caused by a faulty water inlet valve that isn't closing completely, a defective pressure switch, or a blocked pressure hose.

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Cancel the cycle and drain

Press Cancel/Drain to attempt to drain the excess water. If the washer won't drain, you may need to manually drain using the drain hose or emergency drain plug.

Have towels ready to catch water.

2

Check the water inlet valves

Turn off the water supply. Unplug the washer. Remove the hoses from the inlet valves and check for debris in the screens. Test each valve with a multimeter. A valve that leaks internally may allow water to trickle in even when the washer is off.

If you notice the washer slowly filling with water when it's supposed to be off, a leaking inlet valve is the culprit.

3

Inspect the pressure switch and hose

The pressure switch (water level sensor) is typically at the top of the washer. Check the small rubber hose connecting it to the tub for kinks, cracks, or clogs. Blow gently through the hose to ensure it's clear.

A clogged pressure hose makes the switch think there's less water than there actually is.

4

Replace the faulty component

Replace the water inlet valve if it's leaking or the pressure switch if it's not detecting the correct water level.

When to call a professional

An overfilling washer can cause water damage. If you can't quickly identify the cause, shut off the water supply and call a professional.
