Whirlpool Oven Error Code F3 E2 — Oven Temperature Too High

Professional Repair 30–60 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Multimeter

What this means

The F3 E2 error code on Whirlpool ovens and ranges indicates the oven temperature has exceeded the maximum safe threshold during operation. The temperature sensor (RTD) is reading an abnormally high temperature, which could mean the bake or broil element relay is stuck closed (keeping the element on continuously), the temperature sensor is reading incorrectly, or the oven has a ventilation problem.

Alternate codes: F3E2

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Turn off the oven immediately

Turn off the oven using the Cancel button. If the oven remains hot or the element stays visibly glowing after cancellation, turn off the circuit breaker immediately.

An element that stays on after Cancel is pressed indicates a stuck relay — this is a fire hazard.

2

Allow the oven to cool completely

With the breaker off, open the oven door and allow it to cool to room temperature before any inspection.

Do not attempt repairs on a hot oven.

3

Test the temperature sensor

With the oven at room temperature and breaker off, test the RTD sensor. It should read approximately 1,080–1,100 ohms. A very low reading may cause false high-temperature readings.

If the sensor reads correctly but the oven truly overheated, the control board relay is likely stuck.

4

Replace the control board

If the sensor is good and the oven truly overheated, the bake or broil relay on the control board is welded closed. Replace the control board.

A stuck relay is a safety hazard — do not use the oven until it's repaired.

When to call a professional
