F2 E1

Whirlpool Oven Error Code F2 E1 — Keypad Cable Unplugged

Moderate Repair 20–40 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, 1/4-inch nut driver

What this means

The F2 E1 error code on Whirlpool ovens and ranges indicates the touch pad (keypad) cable is unplugged or has lost its connection to the control board. The control board cannot detect any signals from the touchpad, meaning the cable has either come loose, been damaged, or the touchpad itself has failed completely.

Alternate codes: F2E1

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Press Cancel and wait

Press the Cancel function and wait 60 seconds. If the keypad responds to Cancel, the cable may have a partial connection. If no response, the cable is fully disconnected.

If Cancel works but the error returns, the cable has an intermittent connection.

2

Reconnect the keypad cable

Turn off the circuit breaker. Remove the rear panel to access the control board. Locate the ribbon cable from the touchpad and press it firmly into its connector on the control board.

The ribbon cable connector usually has a locking tab — make sure it's fully engaged.

3

Inspect for cable damage

Examine the full length of the ribbon cable for cracks, crimps, or burns. A damaged cable must be replaced along with the touchpad assembly.

Heat from the oven can degrade ribbon cables over time, especially if insulation is damaged.

4

Replace if necessary

If the cable is damaged or reconnecting doesn't resolve the error, replace the touchpad assembly (which includes the cable). On some models, replace the touchpad and control board as an integrated assembly.

After replacement, test all buttons to verify they respond correctly.

When to call a professional

If the cable and touchpad have been replaced and the error persists, the control board's connector port may be damaged.
