Whirlpool Dryer Error Code L2 — Low Voltage

Moderate Fix 5–15 minutes No tools needed

What this means

The L2 error on electric Whirlpool dryers means the unit is only receiving half the required voltage (120V instead of 240V). This happens when one leg of the double-pole circuit breaker has tripped. The dryer will tumble but not heat.

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Reset the circuit breaker

Go to your electrical panel and find the dryer's double-pole breaker. Flip it fully OFF, then back ON. Both sides must engage.

A double-pole breaker can trip on one side only — it may look 'on' but one half is actually tripped.

2

Test the dryer

Run a timed dry cycle. Feel for heat after 5 minutes. If the drum tumbles but air stays cold, the voltage issue persists.

If the breaker trips again immediately, do not keep resetting it — call an electrician.

3

Check the outlet and cord

Inspect the dryer cord for damage. If possible, test the outlet voltage — it should read 220–240V between the two hot terminals.

Older 3-prong outlets are more prone to connection issues than newer 4-prong.

When to call a professional

If the breaker keeps tripping on one side, there's likely a wiring issue in the circuit. Call a licensed electrician.
