Samsung Dishwasher Error Code tE — Temperature Sensor Error
What this means
The tE error means the thermistor (temperature sensor) in the dishwasher is malfunctioning. The dishwasher can't accurately monitor water temperature for proper cleaning and sanitizing.
Alternate codes: tC
Step-by-step fix
3 stepsPower cycle the dishwasher
Turn off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes and turn it back on. Run a cycle to see if the error clears.
Temporary sensor glitches are common and often resolved with a reset.
Check the thermistor connection
The thermistor is typically located near the sump area at the bottom of the dishwasher. Check that its wire connector is firmly attached.
You may need to remove the dishwasher's bottom panel or pull it out to access the thermistor.
Test thermistor resistance
Disconnect the thermistor and test with a multimeter. At room temperature it should read approximately 10,000 ohms (10kΩ).
If the reading is significantly off (below 5kΩ or above 20kΩ at room temp), the thermistor is faulty.
When to call a professional
Accessing the thermistor often requires pulling the dishwasher out from under the counter. If you're not comfortable with this, a technician can handle it.
