Samsung Dishwasher Error Code HE — Heater Error
What this means
The HE error code indicates the dishwasher's water heating element is malfunctioning. The water isn't reaching the target temperature for effective cleaning. This can result in dishes that aren't clean or sanitized properly.
Alternate codes: HC, HE1
Step-by-step fix
3 stepsVerify hot water supply
Run the kitchen faucet hot water for 30 seconds before starting the dishwasher. The dishwasher heats water further, but it needs to start with hot water (at least 120°F).
If your home's hot water heater is set too low, the dishwasher can't compensate.
Power cycle the dishwasher
Turn off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes. Turn it back on and run a hot cycle.
A one-time sensor glitch can cause a false HE error.
Test the heating element
If you have access and a multimeter, test the heating element for continuity. It's located at the bottom of the dishwasher tub. Disconnect power first.
The heating element should show 10–30 ohms of resistance. Infinity (OL) means it's burned out.
When to call a professional
Replacing the heating element in a dishwasher involves disassembly and electrical connections. This is best left to a technician.
