F3 E2

Maytag Oven Error Code F3 E2 — Oven Temperature Sensor Open

Moderate Repair 15–30 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Multimeter

What this means

The F3 E2 error on Maytag ovens means the oven temperature sensor (RTD probe) has an open circuit — the control board cannot read the oven temperature because the sensor circuit is broken. This is most commonly caused by a burned-out sensor element, a disconnected wire at the sensor plug or control board, or a break in the wiring harness.

Alternate codes: F3E2

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Test the temperature sensor

Turn off the circuit breaker. Disconnect the sensor wires. Measure resistance — a good sensor reads approximately 1,080–1,100 ohms at room temperature. An infinite (OL) reading means the sensor is open.

Test at the sensor end and the control board end to identify whether the break is in the sensor itself or the wiring.

2

Check all wire connections

Inspect the connector at the sensor and the connector at the control board. Look for pulled-out wires, burnt terminals, or corroded pins. Reseat both connectors firmly.

Self-clean cycles generate intense heat that can loosen wire connections over time.

3

Replace the sensor if open

Remove the mounting screw(s) from inside the oven cavity. Pull the old sensor out, disconnect it, and install the replacement. Secure with the screw and reconnect the wiring.

Handle the new sensor probe carefully — the internal element is fragile and can break if bent sharply.

When to call a professional

If the sensor and wiring are both good but the error persists, the control board's sensor input circuit may have failed — professional diagnosis is recommended.
