Maytag Dryer Error Code F2 E1 — Stuck Button on Control Panel

Moderate Repair 15–40 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Soft cloth

What this means

The F2 E1 error on Maytag dryers means the control board is detecting a continuously pressed button on the user interface. This can be caused by a physically stuck button, liquid spilled on the control panel, or a failed user interface board. The dryer will not respond to other commands while this error is active.

Alternate codes: F2E1

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Try to free the stuck button

Press each button on the control panel firmly a few times to see if any feel stuck. Sometimes debris or sticky residue can cause a button to remain depressed.

Gently massage around the edges of each button to dislodge anything trapped underneath.

2

Clean the control panel

Dampen a soft cloth with warm water and wipe down the entire control panel surface. Avoid spraying cleaner directly onto the panel as liquid can seep behind the buttons.

Never use abrasive cleaners or solvents on the control panel — they can damage the overlay.

3

Power cycle the dryer

Unplug the dryer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in. If a button was momentarily stuck, the reset will clear the error.

If the error returns immediately after power is restored, the user interface board likely needs replacement.

4

Replace the user interface board

Unplug the dryer. Remove the screws holding the control console and lift it to access the user interface board behind the keypad overlay. Disconnect the wire ribbons, swap the board, and reassemble.

The overlay membrane and interface board are sometimes sold as one unit — check your model number.

When to call a professional

If the user interface board replacement doesn't fix it, the main control board may be misreading signals and should be diagnosed by a technician.
