LG Washer Error Code SE — Motor Sensor Error
What this means
The SE error code indicates a problem with the washer's motor sensor or hall sensor. This sensor monitors the motor's rotation speed and direction. When it fails, the control board cannot properly drive the motor. This code is closely related to the LE error and often has the same root cause — a faulty hall sensor.
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsReset the washer
Unplug the washer for 10 minutes and then plug it back in. Run a cycle to see if the error clears. A brief sensor glitch can trigger the SE code.
Access the motor and hall sensor
Remove the rear panel of the washer. The hall sensor (rotor position sensor) is a small component mounted on the stator assembly, typically held by one screw. It has a wire harness connector leading to the control board.
Test the hall sensor
Disconnect the hall sensor's wire connector. Using a multimeter set to ohms, measure resistance between the two outer pins of the sensor. A normal reading is 13–15 ohms. An open or shorted reading means the sensor has failed.
The hall sensor is the same part used for LE error repairs and is very inexpensive.
Replace the hall sensor
Remove the single mounting screw, pull the old sensor off the stator, and install the replacement. Reconnect the wiring harness, reinstall the rear panel, and run a test cycle.
Make sure the sensor is seated flush against the stator surface for accurate readings.
When to call a professional
If replacing the hall sensor does not resolve the SE error, the stator or main control board may be at fault. These are more expensive repairs that benefit from professional diagnosis.
