LG Oven/Range Error Code F7 — Stuck Key on Control Panel Touchpad
What this means
The F7 error code on LG ovens indicates the control board is detecting a continuously pressed key on the membrane touchpad. This can be caused by moisture behind the overlay, a worn-out membrane, a defective ribbon cable, or physical damage to the keypad. The oven may beep continuously or refuse to accept any input.
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsPower cycle the oven
Turn off the breaker for two minutes. Restore power. If the code clears, press each button on the touchpad to confirm normal response. A one-time moisture event or static discharge can cause a false F7.
If the code returns immediately on power-up — before you press anything — the membrane is almost certainly shorted.
Clean the touchpad
Wipe the touchpad surface and its edges with a damp soft cloth. Remove any food splatter, grease, or liquid that could be bridging contacts behind the membrane.
Never use abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads on the overlay — they can damage the conductive layer beneath.
Inspect the ribbon cable connection
Turn off the breaker. Remove the screws holding the rear control panel cover. Locate the flat ribbon cable from the touchpad membrane to the control board. Disconnect it, check for damage or corrosion, and reseat it firmly.
If disconnecting the ribbon cable while the board is powered (not recommended) clears the error, the touchpad is confirmed faulty.
Replace the touchpad overlay or control board
If reseating doesn't help, the membrane overlay needs replacement. On some LG models the overlay and control board are a single assembly. Order the correct part for your model number and swap it in.
Check the LG parts catalog — on some models you can buy just the overlay; on others you must buy the entire panel assembly.
When to call a professional
If the touchpad/overlay has been replaced but the error persists, the control board may have a shorted input. A technician can test the board and determine if it needs replacement.
