LG Oven/Range Error Code F11 — Communication Error Between Control Boards
What this means
The F11 error code on LG ovens indicates a communication breakdown between the electronic oven control (main relay board) and the user interface (display) board. These two boards are connected by a wiring harness or ribbon cable and exchange data continuously. A loose connector, a damaged harness, or a failed component on either board can trigger this code.
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsPower cycle the oven
Turn off the breaker for five minutes. Restore power and check if the display comes back to life and the error clears. Power surges and brief outages can cause a communication glitch that a reset fixes.
If you experienced a recent thunderstorm or power flicker, a surge protector on the oven circuit can prevent recurrence.
Reseat the communication harness
Turn off the breaker. Remove the rear cover or top panel to access the control boards. Find the wiring harness that runs between the display board (behind the control panel) and the main board. Unplug both ends, inspect for corrosion or damage, and firmly reconnect.
Even if connectors look fine, unplug and replug them — oxidation on pins can be invisible but disruptive.
Visually inspect both boards
Examine each circuit board for signs of damage: burn marks, swollen capacitors, cracked solder joints, or discolored areas around the communication connector pins.
A magnifying glass and flashlight at an angle help reveal hairline cracks in solder.
Replace the faulty board
If the harness is good, the display board is the more common failure point. Replace it first. If F11 persists, the main relay board may also need replacement. Transfer your model and serial numbers to ensure correct part ordering.
Some LG boards require a software configuration after installation — follow the instructions included with the replacement part.
When to call a professional
Communication errors can be difficult to isolate without diagnostic tools. If reseating the harness and replacing one board doesn't fix it, a technician can determine which board is truly at fault.
