SE3

LG Dishwasher Error Code SE3 — Steam Generator Low Water Level (TrueSteam)

Moderate Fix 20–45 minutes Tools: Pliers, Multimeter (optional)

What this means

The SE3 error code appears on LG dishwashers with TrueSteam technology. It indicates the control board detected that the steam generator did not fill to its normal operating water level. Without adequate water, the steam generator cannot produce the high-temperature steam needed for sanitization and enhanced cleaning. Causes include a faulty water inlet valve, low household water pressure, a clogged inlet screen, a malfunctioning steam water level sensor, or a leak in the steam generator's water supply line. The dishwasher will operate normally for standard wash cycles but will skip the steam phase.

Alternate codes: SE 3

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Check the water supply

Ensure the main water supply valve to the dishwasher is fully open. Test other water fixtures in the kitchen to confirm adequate water pressure. Low pressure can prevent the steam generator from filling properly.

If other fixtures have good pressure but the dishwasher does not, the supply line or valve to the dishwasher may be restricted.

2

Clean the water inlet screen

Turn off the water supply and disconnect the water inlet hose from the dishwasher. Check the inlet screen (a small mesh filter inside the water inlet port) for debris or mineral buildup. Clean it with a small brush under running water.

In areas with hard water, the inlet screen can accumulate scale quickly. Inspect it at least twice a year.

3

Power-reset and test the steam function

Turn off the circuit breaker for 1 minute, then restore power. Run a cycle with the steam option enabled. After the cycle, check the steam error status by pressing SPRAY + HALF LOAD simultaneously. SE0 indicates the problem is resolved.

If SE3 returns immediately, the water level sensor or the steam generator's internal fill line may be the issue.

4

Inspect the steam water level sensor

The steam generator has a dedicated water level sensor that tells the control board when the chamber is adequately filled. If this sensor is faulty, it may report low water even when the chamber is full. A technician can test the sensor and replace it if needed.

The water level sensor is typically a small probe or float switch inside or attached to the steam generator assembly.

When to call a professional

If the water supply is confirmed good and the inlet screen is clean, but SE3 persists, a technician should test the steam generator water level sensor, the dedicated steam inlet valve, and check for leaks in the steam water supply path.
