LG Dishwasher Error Code IE1 — Water Inlet Fault (Persistent)

Moderate Fix 15–30 minutes Tools: Pliers, Small brush or toothbrush, Bucket

What this means

The IE1 error code on LG dishwashers indicates a persistent water inlet fault. The dishwasher has attempted to fill with water multiple times but the water level has not reached the required level within the allotted time. While the standard IE code may resolve with a simple check of the water tap, IE1 indicates the control board has detected the problem across multiple retry attempts. Causes include a closed or partially closed water supply valve, very low household water pressure, a severely clogged inlet filter screen, a failed water inlet valve solenoid, or a kinked water supply hose. On LG models with TrueSteam, IE1 can also appear if both the main tub and the steam generator fail to receive adequate water.

Alternate codes: IE 1, 1E1

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Check the water supply valve

Locate the water supply valve under the kitchen sink (usually the valve connected to the dishwasher supply line). Make sure it is fully open by turning it counterclockwise. A partially open valve restricts flow.

If the valve handle is perpendicular to the pipe, it is closed. Parallel to the pipe means open.

2

Inspect and clean the inlet filter screen

Turn off the water supply valve. Disconnect the water supply hose from the dishwasher inlet (bottom of the unit). Remove the mesh filter screen from the inlet port and clean it thoroughly with a brush to remove sediment and mineral buildup.

Have a bucket and towels ready — water will flow out when you disconnect the hose.

3

Check the water supply hose

Inspect the hose from the supply valve to the dishwasher for kinks, bends, or damage. Straighten any kinks. If the hose is old and showing wear, replace it.

Braided stainless-steel supply hoses are more durable and kink-resistant than rubber hoses.

4

Test the water inlet valve

If water supply is confirmed good, the water inlet valve solenoid may have failed. With the dishwasher unplugged, use a multimeter to test the inlet valve solenoid coil for continuity. No continuity means the valve needs replacement.

The inlet valve is located at the bottom of the dishwasher behind the kick plate. It has one or two solenoid coils.

When to call a professional

If the supply, hose, and filter are all clear but the IE1 code persists, a technician should test and replace the water inlet valve. If your household has chronically low water pressure, a plumber may need to address the supply side.
