LG Dishwasher Error Code IE — Water Inlet Error

Easy Fix 15–30 minutes Tools: Pliers, Bucket, Towel

What this means

The IE error code means the LG dishwasher is not receiving enough water to begin a wash cycle. Common causes include a closed water supply valve, a kinked supply hose, a clogged inlet filter screen, or a faulty water inlet valve. This is usually a straightforward fix.

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Check the water supply valve

Locate the hot water supply valve under the kitchen sink (dishwashers typically use the hot water line). Ensure it is fully open. If it was recently turned off for any reason, it may not have been fully reopened.

The valve should be turned counterclockwise as far as it will go for full flow.

2

Inspect the water supply hose

Check the supply hose running from the valve to the dishwasher for kinks, bends, or damage. A kinked hose can restrict water flow enough to trigger the IE error.

If the dishwasher was recently pulled out or pushed back in, the supply hose may have become kinked.

3

Clean the inlet filter screen

Turn off the water supply. Disconnect the supply hose from the dishwasher's inlet valve (usually at the bottom front). Use pliers to pull out the small mesh filter screen. Rinse it under water to remove sediment and scale.

If your home has hard water, mineral deposits on this screen are a common cause of IE errors.

4

Test the water inlet valve

If the supply is open, hose is clear, and screen is clean but the dishwasher still won't fill, the inlet valve may be faulty. Test the solenoid coil with a multimeter — it should read approximately 500–1,500 ohms.

When to call a professional

If the water inlet valve needs replacement, it requires working with plumbing connections underneath the dishwasher. If you're not comfortable with this, a technician can handle it quickly.
