KitchenAid Washer Error Code F9E1 — Slow Drain / Drain Clogged
What this means
The F9E1 error code on KitchenAid washers indicates the washer is draining too slowly or not at all. Water remains in the tub after the drain cycle. Common causes include a clogged drain pump filter, a kinked drain hose, a blocked standpipe, or a failing drain pump motor.
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsClean the drain pump filter
Locate the drain pump filter access at the bottom front of the washer. Place towels underneath and slowly unscrew the filter cap to drain residual water. Remove any debris (coins, buttons, hair clips, lint).
Have a large pan ready — more water than expected may come out.
Check the drain hose
Pull the washer out and check the drain hose for kinks. Also check the standpipe or sink drain connection for blockages.
The drain hose should be inserted no more than 8 inches into the standpipe.
Listen to the drain pump
Run a drain/spin cycle and listen. If you hear the pump humming, it's running but may be weak. If it's silent, the pump may have failed.
Replace the drain pump if needed
If the drain path is clear but the pump doesn't run, replace the drain pump motor.
When to call a professional
If you've cleaned everything and the pump runs but water still won't drain, the issue may be in your home's plumbing.
