GE Dryer Error Code E1 — Thermistor Error

Advanced Fix 25–45 minutes Tools: Multimeter, Screwdriver

What this means

The E1 error on GE dryers indicates the thermistor (temperature sensor) is faulty, shorted, or has an open circuit. The dryer can't regulate temperature properly.

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Power cycle the dryer

Unplug for 2 minutes. A temporary sensor error may clear.

If the error appeared once and doesn't return, it was a glitch.

2

Check thermistor connection

Access the thermistor (usually on the blower housing or exhaust path) and verify the wiring connector is firmly attached.

Vibration can loosen wire connections over time.

3

Test thermistor resistance

Disconnect the thermistor and measure with a multimeter. Should read ~10,000 ohms at room temperature.

OL (open line) reading means the thermistor wire has broken internally.

When to call a professional

Thermistor replacement is straightforward but requires accessing the dryer's internals.
