Electrolux Washer Error Code E52 — Motor Speed Signal Lost

Serious 30–60 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Socket set, Multimeter

What this means

The E52 error code on Electrolux washers indicates the main control board is not receiving a valid speed signal from the motor tachometer (speed sensor). This prevents the washer from spinning at the correct speed or spinning at all. Common causes include a faulty tachometer, loose motor wiring, a worn carbon brush, or excessive load causing the motor to stall.

Alternate codes: E 52

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Reduce the load

If the washer stopped mid-cycle, remove half the clothing load and restart. An overloaded drum can prevent the motor from reaching speed and cause the tachometer signal to drop out.

Large, heavy items like blankets should be washed alone to prevent motor overload.

2

Check the motor wiring

Unplug the washer, remove the rear panel, and locate the motor at the bottom of the drum. Check all wiring connectors on the motor for loose or corroded connections. Reseat any loose connectors firmly.

Vibration during spin cycles can gradually loosen motor connectors over time.

3

Test the tachometer

The tachometer is a small sensor mounted on the back of the motor. Disconnect it and test with a multimeter — it should read approximately 100–200 ohms. If the reading is open or far outside this range, replace the tachometer.

Some Electrolux models have the tachometer integrated into the motor — check your model's parts diagram.

4

Inspect motor carbon brushes

If your model has a brushed motor, remove the carbon brushes from each side of the motor. If they are worn down to less than 1/4 inch (6mm), they need to be replaced as a pair.

Worn brushes often leave carbon dust around the motor — a telltale sign they need replacing.

When to call a professional

If the tachometer, wiring, and brushes are all fine, the motor control board or main control board may be faulty and requires professional diagnosis.
