E38

Electrolux Washer Error Code E38 — Drum Not Rotating / Pressure Does Not Change During Spin

Moderate Fix 20–45 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Socket wrench set, Multimeter

What this means

The E38 error code on Electrolux washers means the control board does not detect the expected pressure fluctuation during the spin cycle. When the drum spins, centrifugal force causes the water level pressure to fluctuate in a characteristic pattern. If the drum is not actually spinning (belt issue, motor issue) or the pressure system is faulty, this fluctuation is absent and the code appears.

Alternate codes: E 38

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Check if the drum spins freely

Open the washer door and try to spin the drum by hand. It should rotate smoothly. If it is stuck or very stiff, something is jammed between the drum and the outer tub, or a bearing has seized.

A grinding noise when spinning the drum by hand indicates a worn bearing.

2

Inspect the drive belt

Unplug the washer and remove the rear panel. Check the drive belt for breaks, fraying, or excessive slack. A broken or loose belt means the drum cannot spin during the cycle.

If the belt has slipped off the pulley but is not broken, look for a worn pulley or motor mount that allowed the misalignment.

3

Check the pressure system

If the drum spins fine by hand, the pressure hose or air trap may be clogged, preventing the control board from detecting the spin-induced pressure change. Clean the air trap and hose as described for pressure sensor issues.

A pressure system that works for fill level detection but not for spin detection suggests a partial clog — just enough restriction to dampen the oscillation.

4

Test the motor and motor control board

If the belt is intact but the motor does not spin the drum during a cycle, check the motor's electrical connections and test the motor windings for continuity. Also check the motor control board for burn marks or swollen capacitors.

On inverter-driven Electrolux models, the motor control module (MCU) is a separate board from the main control. Check both.

When to call a professional

If the motor or motor control board has failed, these are complex repairs. A technician can diagnose and replace the correct component efficiently.
