F31

Electrolux Oven Error Code F31 — Shorted Oven Temperature Sensor

Moderate 15–35 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Multimeter, Nut driver (1/4 inch)

What this means

The F31 error code on Electrolux ovens indicates the control board has detected a short circuit in the oven temperature sensor (RTD probe) or its wiring. Instead of reading the expected resistance (about 1,080 ohms at room temperature), the board sees very low or zero resistance. This prevents proper temperature regulation. Causes include a failed sensor, sensor wires touching each other, or a connector that has shorted internally.

Alternate codes: F 31

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Test the sensor resistance

Disconnect the sensor wires at the control board and measure resistance. It should read 1,080–1,100 ohms at room temperature. A reading near 0 ohms confirms a short circuit.

If the reading is normal at the board, the issue may be intermittent — check for damaged wire insulation.

2

Check for shorted wires

Inspect the sensor wiring from the oven cavity to the control board. Look for places where the two sensor wires may be touching each other (damaged insulation, melted jacket, pinched in the cabinet).

The wiring often passes near high-heat areas of the oven — insulation can degrade over time.

3

Test the sensor directly

If the wiring appears damaged, disconnect the sensor at the probe end and test it directly. If the sensor reads 1,080–1,100 ohms, the sensor is good and the wiring is the problem. If the sensor reads near 0, replace it.

Make sure you disconnect the sensor from all wiring before testing — testing with wires connected can give misleading results.

4

Replace the sensor or repair wiring

Replace the faulty sensor or repair the shorted wiring. Use high-temperature rated wire and connectors for any wiring repairs inside the oven area.

Standard wire and electrical tape cannot withstand oven temperatures — use only fiberglass-insulated wire rated for high heat.

When to call a professional

This is typically a DIY-friendly repair. Call a pro if the sensor and wiring test fine but the code persists.
