F3

Electrolux Oven Error Code F3 — Oven Sensor Open Circuit (at Temperature)

Moderate 20–40 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Multimeter, Nut driver (1/4 inch)

What this means

The F3 error code on Electrolux ovens is similar to F30 but specifically indicates the oven temperature sensor signal was lost while the oven was at operating temperature — not at startup. This can be caused by an intermittent break in the sensor wiring that opens up when the oven heats (thermal expansion), a sensor that has developed a hairline crack in its element, or a loose connector that vibrates open when the oven fan runs.

Alternate codes: F 3, F03

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Test the sensor at room temperature

With the oven cool and unplugged, disconnect the sensor wires at the board and test resistance. It should read 1,080–1,100 ohms. If it reads normal, the issue is intermittent.

An intermittent sensor may test fine when cool but fail when hot — this makes diagnosis trickier.

2

Wiggle-test the wiring

With the multimeter still connected to the sensor wires, gently flex and wiggle the wiring along its entire length. Watch the meter for any fluctuation or momentary open reading — this indicates a wire break.

Pay special attention to areas near the connector plugs and where the wire passes through the oven insulation.

3

Check connector tightness

Inspect the wire connectors at both the sensor end and the control board end. Make sure they are fully seated and make firm contact. A connector that barely holds may work until vibration from the oven fan shakes it loose.

If connectors are loose, carefully tighten the female terminals with small pliers for a more secure fit.

4

Replace the sensor proactively

If the sensor tests fine at room temperature but you cannot find a wiring issue, replace the sensor anyway. Intermittent sensor failures are common and the part is inexpensive. Run the oven at 350°F for 30 minutes to verify.

At 350°F, the sensor should read approximately 1,900 ohms. Check the reading during operation if accessible.

When to call a professional

If F3 continues after sensor and wiring replacement, the control board's sensor input circuit may have an intermittent fault.
