Electrolux Dryer Error Code E52 — Motor Speed Signal Error
What this means
The E52 error code on Electrolux dryers indicates the control board has lost the speed signal from the drum motor's tachometer or speed sensor. Without this signal, the board cannot confirm the drum is spinning at the correct speed. Causes include a faulty tachometer, loose motor wiring, worn motor brushes (on brushed models), a jammed drum, or an overloaded dryer.
Alternate codes: E 52
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsCheck for drum obstructions
Open the dryer and check if items are jammed between the drum and the cabinet. Small items like socks can get caught and prevent the drum from spinning freely.
Rotate the drum by hand — it should turn smoothly with only slight resistance from the belt.
Inspect the drive belt
If the drum turns too freely (no resistance), the drive belt may have broken. Access the drum area and check the belt. A broken belt means the motor spins but the drum doesn't — the tachometer sees speed but the drum isn't moving.
The belt should be wrapped around the drum and looped through the idler pulley and motor pulley.
Test the motor tachometer
Locate the tachometer on the motor (small sensor on the motor shaft end). Disconnect it and test resistance — typically 100–200 ohms. If OL, the tachometer has failed.
Make sure the tachometer magnet is still attached to the motor shaft — it can fall off.
Check motor wiring connections
Inspect all wiring connectors between the motor, tachometer, and control board. Reseat any loose connections. Vibration from normal operation can work connectors loose over time.
Corrosion on connector pins can also cause intermittent signal loss.
When to call a professional
If the belt, tachometer, and wiring are all fine, the motor or control board may need replacement. Call a professional for diagnosis.
