E11

Electrolux Dryer Error Code E11 — Heating Fault

Serious 30–60 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Multimeter, Nut driver (1/4 inch), Flashlight

What this means

The E11 error code on Electrolux dryers indicates a heating system failure. The dryer is running but not producing heat, or the temperature is not rising as expected. This is commonly caused by a burned-out heating element, a tripped thermal fuse or high-limit thermostat, a faulty thermistor, or a broken wire in the heater circuit. On gas models, it may indicate a failed gas igniter or gas valve solenoid.

Alternate codes: E 11

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Check the thermal fuse

Unplug the dryer and access the rear panel. Locate the thermal fuse on the blower housing or heating element housing. Test it with a multimeter for continuity — it should read near 0 ohms. If it reads OL (open), the fuse has blown.

A blown thermal fuse almost always means the dryer vent is or was clogged. Clean the vent before replacing the fuse.

2

Test the high-limit thermostat

The high-limit thermostat is usually mounted on the heater housing near the thermal fuse. Test it for continuity — it should read near 0 ohms at room temperature. Replace if open.

The high-limit thermostat is a safety device that trips when the dryer overheats due to restricted airflow.

3

Test the heating element

Disconnect the wires from the heating element and test for continuity. A good element typically reads 10–50 ohms. Also test from each terminal to the element housing (ground) — this should read OL. If it shows continuity to ground, the element is shorted.

Visually inspect the coil for any breaks or areas where it may be touching the housing.

4

Clean the dryer vent system

Disconnect the dryer vent hose and clean it thoroughly. Use a dryer vent brush to clean the vent duct all the way to the outside. A clogged vent causes overheating that blows thermal fuses and damages heating elements.

Clean the vent at least once per year. If your vent run is longer than 15 feet, clean it more frequently.

When to call a professional

If all heating components test fine, the electronic control board may not be sending voltage to the heater circuit. Call a technician for board-level diagnosis.
