E17

Bosch Dishwasher Error Code E17 — Overfill / Water Level Too High

Moderate — DIY Possible 20–45 minutes Tools: Torx screwdriver set, Towels

What this means

The E17 error indicates that the water level sensor has detected more water in the tub than is safe. This can be caused by excess water pressure, a partially stuck inlet valve, or a faulty water level sensor (pressure switch). Unlike E16, the fill may have stopped but the water level is abnormally high.

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Cancel and drain

Press the Cancel/Drain button to pump out the excess water. If this doesn't work, manually drain by placing towels under the door and tilting the dishwasher slightly.

Have towels and a shallow pan ready to catch water.

2

Check water pressure

If your home has unusually high water pressure (above 80 psi), consider installing a pressure regulator on the supply line.

High water pressure can force more water through the inlet valve than intended.

3

Inspect the inlet valve

Check whether the inlet valve fully closes when the dishwasher stops filling. A slow drip indicates an internal seal failure.

You can test this by shutting off the supply valve and checking if the water level in the tub still rises.

When to call a professional

If the error occurs repeatedly despite normal water pressure, the water level sensor or inlet valve needs professional diagnosis.
