Amana Washer Error Code F6 E1 — Communication Error Between Boards

Advanced DIY 20–45 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, 1/4 inch nut driver

What this means

Error code F6 E1 indicates a serial communication failure between the main control board (CCU) and the user interface board. The washer's display may go blank, show garbled information, or the controls may not respond. This is most commonly caused by a loose wire harness or a failed board.

Alternate codes: F6E1

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Power cycle the washer

Unplug the washer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in. A power surge or temporary glitch can cause false communication errors.

On top-load washers, you can also try the reset sequence: lift and lower the lid 6 times within 12 seconds.

2

Check the wire harness

Unplug the washer, remove the console back panel, and inspect the ribbon cable or wire harness connecting the user interface to the control board. Reseat both connectors firmly.

Look for corroded or bent pins — these are a common cause of intermittent communication errors.

3

Check the control board connections

On front-load models, also check the main control board connections (usually behind the lower back panel). Reseat all connectors.

On top-load models, the main control board is under the console — access it by removing the console screws.

4

Replace the user interface or control board

If the connections are secure, try replacing the user interface board first (less expensive). If that doesn't fix it, replace the main control board.

Before ordering parts, check if the wire harness itself is damaged — a replacement harness is cheaper than either board.

When to call a professional

If both boards and wiring have been checked or replaced without success, a professional may need to diagnose further.
