F2 E1

Amana Oven Error Code F2 E1 — Oven Temperature Too High

Advanced DIY 20–45 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Multimeter

What this means

Error code F2 E1 indicates the oven has detected a temperature exceeding the maximum safe operating limit during a cooking cycle. The oven control will automatically shut off the heating elements and may lock the door. This can be caused by a faulty oven temperature sensor, a stuck relay on the control board, or a calibration issue.

Alternate codes: F2E1

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Allow the oven to cool

Turn the oven off and let it cool completely. Do not open the door if the oven locked — wait until the lock releases automatically.

The door lock releases once the oven temperature drops below approximately 550°F.

2

Test the temperature sensor

Unplug the oven and locate the temperature sensor probe inside the oven cavity (a thin metal rod, usually in the upper back). Disconnect its wires and test resistance — it should read approximately 1080 ohms at room temperature.

If the resistance is significantly higher or lower, the sensor is giving false readings and causing the overheat error.

3

Inspect sensor wiring

Check the wiring from the sensor to the control board for damage, especially where it passes through the oven cavity wall.

Heat and age can make the insulation brittle and crack, causing intermittent shorts.

4

Replace the temperature sensor

If the sensor reads out of range, remove the two mounting screws inside the oven and pull the sensor out. Install the replacement.

The sensor replacement takes about 5 minutes — it's one of the easiest oven repairs.

When to call a professional

If the temperature sensor reads correctly but the oven still overheats, the control board's relay is likely stuck closed and the board needs professional replacement.
