Whirlpool Oven Error Code F8 E0 — Control Board Communication Failure

Moderate-Advanced Repair 30–60 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Torx T20 screwdriver

What this means

The F8 E0 error code on Whirlpool ovens indicates a communication failure between the user interface (UI) board and the oven control board (clock/timer board). This is common on double ovens where the upper and lower ovens share communication lines, and on induction ranges where the cooktop and oven share a control bus. Causes include a power surge, a loose ribbon cable, or a failed control board.

Alternate codes: F8E0

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Power cycle the oven

Turn off the circuit breaker for the oven for at least 5 minutes. Restore power and check if the error clears. A power surge can temporarily disrupt board communication.

If this error appeared after a power outage or electrical storm, a reset often resolves it.

2

Check the ribbon cable and wire harness

Remove the control panel cover or back panel to access the UI board and oven control board. Inspect the ribbon cable or wire harness between the two boards. Disconnect and reseat all connectors firmly.

On double ovens, also check the communication cable between the upper and lower oven control boards.

3

Replace the UI board or oven control board

If connections are secure and the error persists, one of the boards has failed. The UI board (front panel) is the more common failure. Replace it first. If the code continues, replace the oven control board.

Photograph all connections before removing any board to ensure correct reassembly.

When to call a professional

If replacing both boards does not resolve the error, there may be a wiring fault in the harness between them. A technician can test the individual communication lines.
