Whirlpool Dishwasher Error Code F6 E4 — Water Supply / Float Switch Error

Moderate Fix 15–30 minutes Tools: Towels

What this means

The F6 E4 error means the float switch in the base of the dishwasher has been activated, indicating either an overfill or water leak into the base pan.

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Check for standing water

Open the dishwasher and look at the bottom of the tub. If there's standing water, try running a cancel/drain cycle.

Remove the bottom rack and filter to see the sump area clearly.

2

Check under the dishwasher

Remove the kick plate (front lower panel). Look for water underneath the unit. If water is in the base pan, the float switch triggered correctly — find the leak.

Place a paper towel under the unit — it makes small leaks visible.

3

Clean the float switch

The float is a small dome-shaped piece in the front-left or front-right of the tub floor. It can get stuck if debris accumulates around it. Clean the area and make sure the float moves freely up and down.

A stuck float mimics an overfill condition. Pressing it down manually and releasing should produce a click.

When to call a professional

If there's water in the base and you can't find the leak source, a technician should investigate.
