Thermador Refrigerator Error Code E08 — Ice Maker Fault

Moderate Repair 20–45 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Hair dryer, Multimeter

What this means

Error E08 on Thermador refrigerators indicates the ice maker module has detected a fault. Thermador built-in and column refrigerators may feature either a standard ice maker or an integrated ice system with automatic fill and harvest. E08 can be triggered by a jammed harvest arm, a frozen water fill tube, a faulty water inlet valve, a failed ice maker motor, or a faulty ice maker mold thermostat. The ice maker will stop cycling and the error will appear on the display.

Alternate codes: Er 08, Err 08

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Check for ice jams

Open the freezer and inspect the ice maker. Look for ice cubes that did not eject properly and are jamming the harvest mechanism. Also check if the ice bin is overfull or if a large clump of ice is preventing the ejector arms from rotating. Remove any jammed ice by hand.

On Thermador Freedom series with the ice maker in the refrigerator door, ice jams are especially common after heavy door activity.

2

Thaw a frozen water fill tube

Locate the water fill tube that supplies water to the ice maker tray. If it is frozen, use a hair dryer on low heat to gently thaw it. Do not use a sharp object. Once thawed, check if water flows into the tray when the ice maker calls for fill.

A repeatedly freezing fill tube usually indicates the freezer temperature is set too low (below -5°F) or the fill tube heater has failed.

3

Test the ice maker module

If jams are cleared and the fill tube is open but the ice maker still does not cycle, the ice maker module motor may have failed. Many Thermador ice makers have a test button — press and hold it for 5 seconds to initiate a test harvest cycle. If the motor does not run, it needs replacement.

The test cycle should complete within 2–3 minutes. If it starts but stalls, the motor has partial failure and should be replaced.

When to call a professional

If the ice maker is integrated into the door and requires disassembly of the door panel, or if the water inlet valve needs replacement behind the refrigerator, professional service is recommended.
