E301

Thermador Oven Error Code E301 — Cooktop Burner Ignition Failure (Gas Models)

Moderate Repair 15–35 minutes Tools: Soft brush or toothbrush, Thin needle or pin, Dry cloth

What this means

Error E301 on Thermador gas cooktops and ranges indicates that a burner igniter fired but the flame sensor did not detect a successful ignition. Thermador Pro Harmony and Pro Grand ranges use electronic ignition with flame sensing to confirm the gas has lit. If the flame is not detected within a few seconds of gas valve opening, the valve closes and E301 is displayed. Causes include a dirty or damaged spark igniter electrode, a clogged burner port, moisture on the igniter, a faulty gas valve, or low gas pressure.

Alternate codes: E-301

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Clean the burner and igniter electrode

Turn off all burners and let the cooktop cool. Lift or remove the burner cap and burner head. Use a soft brush to clean food debris, grease, and spillovers from the burner ports. Use a thin needle or pin to clear any clogged burner port holes. Clean the spark igniter electrode (the small white ceramic post near the burner) with a dry cloth — do not use water.

Boilover residue is the most common cause of ignition failure on Thermador cooktops. Clean around the igniter after every major spill.

2

Dry the igniter area

If the cooktop was recently cleaned with water or if there has been a spillover of liquid, moisture on the igniter can prevent ignition. Allow the area to air dry completely, or use a hair dryer on low heat to dry the igniter electrode and the burner base.

After cleaning the cooktop with a damp cloth, always wait at least 10 minutes before trying to ignite a burner.

3

Check the gas supply

Verify the gas supply valve behind or below the range is fully open. Check if other gas appliances in the home are working — if none are, there may be a gas supply issue. Also check if the specific burner's individual gas valve is opening by listening for a gentle hiss when the knob is turned to ignite.

If only one burner will not ignite but others work fine, the issue is likely isolated to that burner's igniter or port — not the gas supply.

When to call a professional

If the igniter is clean, dry, and sparking but the burner still will not light, the gas valve for that burner may be stuck or the flame sensor circuit may be faulty. Gas valve replacement should only be done by a licensed gas appliance technician.
