Samsung Refrigerator Error Code PC ER — Communication Error Between Panels
What this means
The PC ER error code indicates a communication failure between the main control board (usually at the back of the refrigerator) and the display/user interface panel (on the door). This is often caused by a loose wire harness connection, a faulty door wire harness (wires that run through the door hinge), or a damaged control board.
Alternate codes: PC CH, PC Er
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsPower cycle the refrigerator
Unplug the refrigerator for 10 minutes. This gives the control boards time to fully reset. Plug back in and check if the error clears.
PC ER errors are sometimes caused by power surges.
Check the door wire harness
The communication wires between the main board and the display panel run through the refrigerator door hinge area. Open and close the door while looking at the display — if the display flickers or the error comes and goes, the door wire harness may be damaged from repeated flexing.
The top of the door where the harness enters is the most common failure point.
Inspect wire harness connections
Unplug the refrigerator. Access the wire harness connectors at the top of the door and at the main control board. Disconnect and firmly reseat each connector. Look for bent pins, corrosion, or damage.
On French door models, the harness connector is often at the top hinge of the left door.
Test the wire harness for continuity
If connections look good, use a multimeter to test each wire in the harness for continuity from end to end. A broken wire will show OL.
Flex the harness while testing — an intermittent break may only show when the wire is in certain positions.
When to call a professional
If the harness is damaged inside the door and cannot be easily replaced, or if the control boards are faulty, a technician should handle the repair. Door wire harness replacement can be model-specific and complex.
