Samsung Refrigerator Error Code 74E — Family Hub Wi-Fi Module Error
What this means
The 74E error code appears on Samsung Family Hub refrigerators when the built-in Wi-Fi module is not functioning. The Family Hub relies on Wi-Fi for smart features including SmartThings integration, food management, streaming, and software updates. This error can be caused by a faulty Wi-Fi antenna, a firmware crash, or a failed Wi-Fi chip on the display board.
Alternate codes: 74C
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsPower cycle both the fridge and router
Unplug the refrigerator and your Wi-Fi router for 2 minutes. Plug the router back in first and wait until it fully boots, then plug in the refrigerator and let the Family Hub restart.
Wait 3–5 minutes after plugging in the fridge for the Family Hub to fully load and attempt Wi-Fi reconnection.
Reconnect to Wi-Fi manually
On the Family Hub touchscreen, go to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi. Forget the current network, then reconnect by selecting your network and entering the password.
Make sure your router is broadcasting on 2.4 GHz — some Family Hub models do not support 5 GHz networks.
Check for software updates
Go to Settings > About Family Hub > Software Update. If an update is available, install it. Software bugs in older firmware versions can cause Wi-Fi module issues.
Keep the Family Hub connected to power during the update — interrupting it can cause additional problems.
Factory reset the Family Hub
If Wi-Fi still won't connect, perform a factory reset: Settings > About Family Hub > Factory Data Reset. After the reset, set up Wi-Fi from scratch.
If Wi-Fi still fails after a factory reset, the internal Wi-Fi module hardware is likely defective.
When to call a professional
If the Wi-Fi module is dead after a factory reset, the display board needs replacement. Contact Samsung support or an authorized technician, especially if under warranty.
