Samsung Refrigerator Error Code 22E — Fridge Fan Error

Advanced Fix 30–60 minutes Tools: Screwdriver set

What this means

The 22E error means the fan that circulates cold air through the refrigerator compartment isn't working. Without this fan, the fridge section won't cool evenly — some areas may be warm while others are fine. The freezer will usually still work normally.

Alternate codes: 22C

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Listen for the fan

With the fridge door open, press the door switch to simulate a closed door. Listen for the fan motor running inside the fridge. If silent, the fan motor may be frozen or failed.

The fan should start within a few seconds of the door switch being pressed.

2

Check for ice blocking the fan

Remove items from around the fan area (usually at the back of the fridge compartment behind a vent panel). Ice can form around the fan and physically block the blades from spinning.

If ice is blocking the fan, defrost the area with a hair dryer. The root cause is usually a defrost system problem.

3

Power cycle the refrigerator

Unplug for 5 minutes, then plug back in. Sometimes the fan motor resets after a brief power interruption.

If the fan makes a buzzing or grinding noise, the motor bearings may be worn.

When to call a professional

Fan motor replacement requires some disassembly of the refrigerator interior. A technician can usually do this in under an hour.
