Samsung Refrigerator Error Code 1E — Freezer Sensor Error

Advanced Fix 20–40 minutes Tools: Screwdriver, Multimeter

What this means

The 1E error means the freezer compartment temperature sensor is giving incorrect readings or is disconnected. The refrigerator can't regulate freezer temperature properly, which may cause the freezer to be too cold or not cold enough.

Alternate codes: SE

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Power cycle the refrigerator

Unplug the refrigerator for 5 minutes, then plug it back in. Check if the error clears. Monitor the freezer temperature for 24 hours.

Temperature sensor errors can be caused by brief power outages or voltage spikes.

2

Check the sensor connection

The freezer sensor is typically located inside the freezer compartment, usually behind a cover panel. Check that the wire connector is firmly attached.

Take a photo of all connections before disconnecting anything.

3

Test the sensor

Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. At 32°F (0°C), it should read approximately 16,000 ohms (16kΩ). At room temperature, about 5,000 ohms (5kΩ).

Sensor resistance decreases as temperature increases.

When to call a professional

If the sensor tests bad, replacement is straightforward but requires some disassembly inside the freezer.
