HC2

Samsung Dryer Error Code HC2 — Gas Ignition Failure (Gas Models)

Advanced Fix 30–60 minutes Tools: Multimeter, Phillips screwdriver, 1/4-inch nut driver

What this means

The HC2 error code is specific to Samsung gas dryers and indicates the gas burner failed to ignite. The dryer's gas valve opens and the igniter glows, but the flame sensor does not detect a flame. This can be caused by a faulty igniter, a defective gas valve solenoid, a failed flame sensor, or an interruption in the gas supply.

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Check the gas supply

Verify the gas shut-off valve behind the dryer is fully open. Check that other gas appliances in the home are working to confirm gas supply.

If no gas appliances work, contact your gas utility company.

2

Observe the igniter during startup

Start the dryer and observe the igniter through the front lower panel opening. The igniter should glow bright orange. If it glows but the gas does not ignite, the gas valve solenoids may be faulty. If it does not glow, the igniter is faulty.

DO NOT use a lighter or match to test for gas — this is extremely dangerous.

3

Test the igniter

Unplug the dryer and disconnect the igniter wires. Test with a multimeter for continuity. A good igniter typically reads between 50 and 400 ohms.

If the igniter reads open (OL) or has very low resistance, it needs replacement.

4

Test the gas valve solenoids

If the igniter is good, test the gas valve solenoids for continuity. Most Samsung gas dryers have two solenoids on the gas valve.

Gas valve solenoids can fail intermittently — the dryer may work sometimes and fail other times.

When to call a professional

If you are not comfortable working with gas appliances, or if the igniter and solenoids test good, call a qualified technician. Gas appliance repair should only be performed by experienced individuals.
