Samsung Dryer Error Code GF — Gas Flame Failure
What this means
The GF error code is specific to Samsung gas dryers. It indicates that the burner either failed to ignite after the gas valve opened, or the flame went out mid-cycle and was not re-established. The flame sensor monitors for the presence of flame — if it detects no flame when gas should be flowing, the system shuts down the gas valve for safety.
Alternate codes: gF, Gf
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsCheck gas supply
Verify the gas shutoff valve behind the dryer is fully open and other gas appliances work. If no gas appliances work, contact your gas utility.
A partially closed valve can allow enough gas for initial ignition but not enough to sustain the flame under load.
Clean the flame sensor
Unplug the dryer. Remove the lower front panel. Locate the flame sensor — a small metal probe near the burner assembly. Gently clean it with fine-grit sandpaper to remove oxidation buildup.
A dirty flame sensor is one of the most common causes of GF errors. Even a thin layer of oxidation can prevent it from detecting the flame.
Test the igniter
Disconnect and test the igniter for resistance (50–400 ohms expected). A weak igniter may glow but not reach the temperature needed to open the gas valve.
Watch the igniter during a test start — it should glow bright orange/white within 30 seconds. A dull red glow means it is weakening.
Test the gas valve coils
Disconnect and test each gas valve solenoid coil (expect 1,000–2,000 ohms each). Weak coils may open the valve initially but fail to hold it open, causing the flame to die mid-cycle.
Gas valve coils often fail in this intermittent pattern — they work when cool but fail after heating up.
When to call a professional
If you smell gas or the burner behaves erratically, turn off the gas supply and call a technician immediately. Gas work should be performed by someone experienced with gas appliances.
