Samsung Dryer Error Code FN — Blower Motor Not Detected
What this means
The FN error code indicates the blower motor that pushes air through the drum and out the vent is not running. Without the blower, moisture-laden air cannot exit the drum and clothes will not dry. The blower motor may have seized, the motor wiring may be disconnected, or the motor capacitor (on some models) may have failed.
Alternate codes: Fn
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsPower cycle the dryer
Unplug for 5 minutes, then start a cycle. Listen for the blower motor spinning — it sounds like a low-pitched hum/whoosh from the back of the dryer.
If you hear the drum turning but no air movement, the blower motor is definitely not running.
Check the blower wheel for obstructions
Unplug the dryer. Remove the front or rear panel (depending on model) to access the blower housing. Check the blower wheel for lint buildup, foreign objects, or a loose wheel on the motor shaft.
A sock or small item of clothing can get sucked into the blower housing and jam the wheel.
Test the blower motor
Disconnect the motor wire harness. Test for resistance — a good blower motor typically reads 1–10 ohms across its run winding. OL means the motor winding is open.
Try spinning the blower wheel by hand. If it doesn't turn or turns with a grinding feel, the motor bearings are worn.
Replace the blower motor
Remove the blower housing, disconnect the old motor, and transfer the blower wheel to the new motor (if not included). Install the new motor, reconnect wiring, and reassemble. Run a test cycle.
Check the blower wheel for cracks before reinstalling — a cracked wheel vibrates and wears out the new motor faster.
When to call a professional
If the motor tests good and the wheel spins freely but the motor doesn't run, the control board may not be sending power to the motor. A technician should trace the circuit.
