C80

Samsung Dryer Error Code C80 — Vent 80% Blocked

Moderate Fix 30–90 minutes Tools: Vent cleaning brush kit, Vacuum cleaner, Screwdriver

What this means

The C80 error code is a vent blockage warning indicating approximately 80% of the dryer vent is obstructed. While the dryer may still operate, it will take significantly longer to dry clothes, use more energy, and the reduced airflow increases the risk of overheating and fire. Samsung dryers with Vent Sensor technology continuously monitor airflow and display graduated blockage warnings (C80, C90, Clg).

Alternate codes: C8o, C8

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Clean the lint filter

Remove the lint filter and clean off all lint. Wash the filter screen with warm soapy water if fabric softener residue has built up, and let it dry completely before reinstalling.

A residue-coated filter can restrict airflow even if it looks clean. Hold it up to light — you should see through the mesh.

2

Disconnect and clean the vent hose

Unplug the dryer and pull it away from the wall. Disconnect the vent hose from the back of the dryer and from the wall vent. Use a vent cleaning brush to remove lint from the hose and both connection points.

Replace a crushed or kinked foil vent hose with rigid or semi-rigid metal duct for better airflow.

3

Clean the entire vent run

Use a dryer vent cleaning kit with a flexible brush rod to clean the vent duct from the dryer to the outside exhaust hood. Go from both ends if possible.

If the vent run is long (over 25 feet) or has multiple turns, consider hiring a professional vent cleaning service.

4

Check the exterior exhaust hood

Go outside and check the exhaust hood where the vent exits the house. Ensure the flap opens freely and is not blocked by lint, debris, snow, or a bird nest.

The flap should open when the dryer runs and close when it stops.

When to call a professional

If the vent has been thoroughly cleaned but the C80 code persists, there may be a hidden obstruction in the wall duct or the vent sensor itself may be faulty. A vent cleaning professional can use a camera to inspect the duct.
